Why participate in this workshop?
The transition from daycare to school is a crucial step in your child’s life. This workshop offers you a unique opportunity to better understand how daycare or preschool can influence this transition and what you can do to facilitate this preparation.
We will cover the essential aspects of school preparation and provide you with practical tools to support your child’s development.
What you will learn during the workshop
- Key Transition Skills: Learn about the important skills your child should learn in daycare to succeed in school, such as communication, fine motor skills, and social and emotional skills. Self-care and emotional management.
- Evaluating Childcare Programs: Learn how to assess the quality of educational programs offered by your child’s daycare and determine if these programs are appropriate for their developmental needs. Does the programming include structured activities and free play, interactions and emotional support, how is the collaboration with educators, etc.?
- Collaborating with Educators: Understand how to collaborate effectively with daycare educators to support your child’s development and ensure a smooth transition to school.
- School Readiness Activities: Get practical tips on activities and games you can do at home to strengthen your child’s skills and help them get ready for school.
- Available Resources: Get information about local resources and supports available to you and your child throughout this transition. (Games to develop cognitive skills, Activities to improve fine motor skills, Techniques to encourage independence, Books and resources to use at home, etc.)
Myths to be debunked
What parent hasn’t heard expressions like: “My child must know how to write his name and count before starting school”, “Only preschool prepares children for school”, or “Educators don’t have a program structured enough to prepare children for school”?
These misconceptions are unfortunately widespread and fuel erroneous beliefs about the role of daycares. During our workshop, we will take the time to deconstruct these myths and clarify the reality. We will explore how school readiness goes far beyond these simplistic notions and how daycares play a crucial role in your child’s overall development. Come discover the truth behind these misconceptions and truly understand what daycares can offer to prepare your child for school.
